Current law and policy:

Legal protection against domestic violence in Maldives is provided under the Domestic Violence Act 2012. The president has committed to providing shelters and an emergency fund by 2023.  Legal protection against domestic violence in Maldives is provided under the Domestic Violence Act 2012 which outlaws domestic violence, requires provision of support for victims, prevention efforts and rehabilitation of perpetrators. On world population day President Solih noted his concerns around the increased levels of domestic violence due to Covid19, on international women’s day the president announced plans to provide shelters and an emergency fund for victims.
