No specific legislation outside of the penal code exists.The extent of legal protections against domestic violence are is the prohibition of assault, battery and rape under the general penal code. In 2018, the death of Fanta SekouFofana, the president’s secretary, suspected due to domestic violence at the hands of her husband sparked discussion around the lack of specific domestic violence protections and legislation.
