KAREENA IS A FINAL YEAR UNDERGRADUATE AT DURHAM UNIVERSITY COMPLETING HER LLB. HER THESIS EXAMINES HOW HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY ARE COMPROMISED IN THE UK BY DATA EXPLOITATION, FOCUSING ON DIGITAL UK POLITICAL CAMPAIGNING THROUGH MICROTARGETED ADS AND ONLINE MANIPULATION.
DURING HER TIME AT UNIVERSITY, KAREENA ACTS AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE DURHAM UNIVERSITY BAR SOCIETY OVERSEEING THE SOCIETY’S EVENTS, SPONSORSHIP, MOCK TRIALS, NETWORKING DINNERS, AND PUBLICITY. SHE HAS ALSO PROVIDED PRO BONO SERVICES FOR ACCESS TO JUSTICE, REVIEWING CASES OF INMATES WHO MAINTAIN THEIR INNOCENCE AND PREPARING THEIR APPEALS FOR THE CRIMINAL CASES REVIEW COMMISSION. KAREENA HAS INTERNED AT THE LAWYER’S COMMITTEE CIVIL RIGHTS OF THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, WHERE SHE CONDUCTED LEGAL RESEARCH OF THE ECONOMIC JUSTICE PROGRAM’S CANNABIS SECTOR. SHE WAS ALSO A YOUNG LEADER UNDER THE US EMBASSY EXCHANGE PROGRAMME ON SOCIAL COHESION, TRAVELLING TO RESEARCH HATE SPEECH AND CRIMES AND ORGANISATIONS ADVOCATING FOR LAW REFORM AND COMMUNITY DIALOGUE ON RACISM, GUN CONTROL AND HUMAN RIGHTS (INCLUDING THE ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE AND THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTRE).
KAREENA IS CURRENTLY THE LEAD YOUTH AMBASSADOR FOR THE UNITY OF FAITHS FOUNDATION, WHERE SHE REPRESENTS THE ORGANISATION IN CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS TO REBUILD SOCIAL INTEGRATION AND GLOBAL COMMUNITY COHESION.
